At the right place at the right time

By Madhumangala Dasa

Lord Caitanya’s causless mercy isn’t something mysterious, in one sense. It really enters the hearts of special souls via the medium of the sankirtan devotees. Thus everyone has an opportunity to remember Krishna, though they may be almost unaware of it.

About two weeks ago, coming back to Durban from Johannesburg, as usual I brought books with me on the bus. I began observing the passengers, who looked sleepy or else quite bored while staring out the window. Continue reading “At the right place at the right time”

Petrol Station Sankirtana

By Madhumangala Dasa

Dear devotees,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to our dearest Srila Prabhupada, all glories to Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga, and all glories to the sankirtan devotees of the Lord!

One evening recently, after relishing the nectar of sankirtan, I was waiting at a gas station for my ride back to the temple. I approached the pump attendants and urged them to chant Hare Krishna. At first they couldn’t understand what I’d said, but after I’d repeated the mantra a few times the normal symptoms of one who hears the Lord’s holy name began to take effect. They all looked at one another, and while smiling and laughing they began to chant in response. Continue reading “Petrol Station Sankirtana”

Warming Up Before the Prabhupada Marathon

By Vijaya Dasa
Ministry of Book Distribution

I was distributing at Pierce College in Los Angeles. It was slow — very slow. Hardly any books were going out. It’s been quite some time since I’ve been able to go on book distribution (health problems), so it was nice to be out on the front lines again. But this was not what I expected. So I decided to save my energy for the next day. As I was leaving, a student came to me and asked, “What are these books about?” I explained to him, “These books help us understand higher spiritual values in life and how to live peacefully in a world filled with so much stress.”

“Really! Wow, I’m into this. Tell me more about them.” Continue reading “Warming Up Before the Prabhupada Marathon”

Malawi Discovers Bhagavad-gita

Submitted by Murari Das

A ten-day international trade fair held in the nation of Malawi, in south central Africa, concluded recently. A well-wisher from India who is a managing director of a Malawian company had offered to hire a stall for ISKCON because he’s keen to help spread Srila Prabhupada’s teachings in Malawi. And so I showcased almost all of Srila Prabhupada’s books to those who visited our stall, people from a diverse section of society:

Students, businessmen, professionals, and even an ex-minister. There were some memorable moments.

One elderly man came up to me, and as I told him about ISKCON he said, “Oh! Krsna and the gopis!” I was surprised Continue reading “Malawi Discovers Bhagavad-gita”

How am I gonna distribute these books?

Submitted by Gaura Dasa

I was so tired, so I took a seat on one of the chairs provided for the elderly at the entrance of Pick ‘n Pay. I wondered how I would distribute the books I had, especially the three volumes of Srimad Bhagavatam which I had in my book bag.

Not much time passed until I heard ‘Haribol Prabhu!’ Continue reading “How am I gonna distribute these books?”

What to say when selling books

Gopinath Acharya das: Deepak prabhu introduced me to Srila Prabhupada and said, “Oh, this is Gopinath Acharya das. He is one of our leading book distributors.” So Srila Prabhupada was actually very interested; and he turned his head very regally, he looked at me and asked me what I said to sell the books. So I mumbled and fumbled something to the effect that, “Oh, … Continue reading What to say when selling books

Submitted by Murari Dasa

We had come to attend the Nairobi Ratha Yatra in East Africa and after that thought of doing some book distribution in neighbouring Dar es salaam and Zanzibar by Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s mercy. In Dar es salaam there are some devotees and there is some preaching going on. In Zanzibar, however the population is at least about ninety five percent muslims and, they are practicing muslims. Therefore there hasn’t really Continue reading “Zanzibar”

The End of a Nice Maha-Sankirtan Day

by Tirtha Pavana dasa (Montreal, Canada)

Bhakta Jeff and I reached downtown Montreal at noon, and by 7:30 we had
distributed all our flyers and books except one hardback Bhagavad-gita.
Both of us tried for thirty minutes to distribute that book, but no one
would take it. We preached to Christians, we preached to Indians — we
tried everyone! I convinced Bhakta Jeff to stay a little longer, but
finally Continue reading “The End of a Nice Maha-Sankirtan Day”
