December Summary

We must deliver this pure science

giving classI am pleased to know that all of you are enthusiastically engaged in distributing our books. In this modern Godless civilization, everyone is greatly suffering due to lack of the real knowledge of Krishna consciousness, and our task is very great and very important. We must deliver this pure science of God to everyone and give them the chance to make their lives successful. So you continue this book distribution program very nicely, and at the same time take advantage of these books yourselves.
Not that you just distribute but neglect reading them yourself. Always read them, especially Krsna book. Every time you have a spare moment, you should read. This will help you to advance in Krishna consciousness, and will give you the ability to convince others also.

Our unique asset is our purity….

“These books are the best advertising, they are better than advertising. If we simply present Krsna consciousness in a serious and attractive way, without need to resort to fashionable slogans or tricks, that is sufficient. Our unique asset is our purity. No one anywhere can match it.

That will be noticed eventually and appreciated, as long as we do not diminish or neglect the highest standard of purity in performing our routine work, not that we require to display or announce ourselves in very clever ways to get attention. No, our pure standard is enough. Let us stand on that basis.”

(Srila Prabhupada to Yogesvara, December 28th, 1971)

On the advent of Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura

“Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada immediately took up the land. He continued that ‘There is no need of establishing many temples. Better we publish some books.’ He said like that.

“He said that ‘We started our this Gaudiya Matha in Ultadanga. The rent was very small, and if we could gather two to two-hundred-fifty rupees, it was very nice, going on. But since this J. V. Datta has given us this stone, marble stone thakurbari, our competition between the disciples has increased. So I don’t like any more. Rather, I would prefer to take out the marble stone and sell it and publish some books.’ Continue reading

Book distribution must go on

I shall never forget the ecstasy when we received the first shipment of Bhagavad-gitas. They were delivered right to the door of the storefront one evening at six o’clock, just before the evening kirtana. Afterwards, I stood up to give the customary concluding announcements. But this time, I held in my hands this beautiful purple-colored book and practically cried as I announced that finally  your labor of love was published and everyone could take advantage of it. Now the world could read the Bhagavad-Gita As It Is, for the first time. You were not in New York Continue reading

Srila Prabhupada Quotes

Push on Sankirtana and be Blessed

Sankirtana must be pushed on, even there are some difficulties. That is our mission. So tactfully, according to place, time, and surroundings, try to push on this Sankirtana cult as far as possible and Krishna will be very very much pleased upon you. I am also very much pleased for your activities and I have all my blessings for you. Please continue this activity and be blessed.

Books and Pleasure

Srila Prabhupada personally wrote me, Go on increasing books, and go on increasing my pleasure. Prabhupada’s pleasure means Krishna’s pleasure, and increasing Krishna’s pleasure is the goal of every devotee–exemplified to the highest degree by the eternal residents of Vrindavan, in whose footsteps we aspire to follow.

Thank you very much. Hare Krishna.

Your eternal servant,
Giriraj Swami

Letter to Brahmananda – India, 3 November, 1972

Yes, that is a good proposal, print many many books in African language and distribute widely, that is real preaching work. If you sell a book to someone, that is better than your speaking to them—what will your three minutes’ preaching do? But if they read a book it may turn their life. Go on preaching, that is the highest perfection of activity, and do not worry for anything, Krishna is so much appreciative of this preaching work that He will give you every facility, as much as you have ambition.

The Best Service is Preaching

I am in due receipt of your weekly sankirtana newsletters. I am always happy to hear of increasing book sales. These reports are very encouraging to me. Our real business is to print and distribute books. By doing this business, you are all becoming recognized by Krishna. Please try to continue working so nicely for Krishna, following the rules and regulations, chanting 16 rounds, and studying my books and you will finish your business in this material world in this life and enter into the spiritual world to live with Krishna eternally.

Don’t become discouraged by any so-called problems. Make your program simple, that is to say, always make sure that you are somehow or other engaged in Krishna’s service, and the best service is preaching or engaging others in Krishna’s service. So continue in this way and be happy.

Hoping this meets you in good health,

Your ever well wisher,
A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami
