World Enlightenment Day

Dear highly esteemed devotees,
Please accept my heartfelt obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
Saturday, December 17 is World Enlightenment Day (WED). Historically, on this day, all over the world, devotees go out to distribute Srila Prabhupada’s books. Everyone is invited to do his or her level best on this day. Each person’s effort is important, however humble it may seem at the time; because, a lot of devotees each doing a little, is powerful. Each individual contribution adds up fast.

Prepare ahead of time by getting your BBT books ready to distribute on this day. Leaders can inform their communities and make facility so that everyone can go out in their local areas for this event.

In the Srimad-Bhagavatam 10.2.37, Srila Prabhupada writes:
The word kriyasu, meaning “by manual labor” or “by work,” is important in this verse. One should engage in practical service to the Lord. In our Krsna consciousness movement, all our activities are concentrated upon distributing Krsna literature. This is very important. One may approach any person and induce him to read Krsna literature so that in the future he also may become a devotee. Such activities are recommended in this verse.
Kriyasu yas tvac-carnaravindayoh.
Such activities will always remind the devotees of the Lord’s lotus feet. By fully concentrating on distributing books for Krsna, one is fully absorbed in Krsna. This is samadhi.

Those who go out to distribute Srila Prabhupada’s books not only feel directly connected to Krsna and the great Acaryas, but, while doing so, they also bestow the greatest benefit upon the people they meet.

Presently, the people in the world are confused and worried about the future. They are distinctly feeling the “pinprick” that Srila Prabhupada speaks of in his preface to Srimad-Bhagavatam. Srila Prabhupada’s books not only offer such people real solace; they also show them practically how to help themselves and others.

As this year is the 50 th anniversary of the founding of ISKCON, this year’s Srila Prabhupada book distribution marathon and World Enlightenment Day are also particularly important.

Please participate and bring as many devotees along with you as possible!

Thank you very much!

Your servant,
Vaisesika Dasa

I am sharing all the resources we have gathered from his presentation for your use and also to share with your communities. I encourage you all to read his book “Our Family Business” and use the Monthly Sankirtan Festival to help every devotee achieve their 50 book quota for ISKCON 50th Anniversary.

Book distribution in Nairobi

Submitted by Vijaya dasa
(Iskcon Sankirtana Minister)

As I was distributing books in Nairobi, Krsna gave me a new line for distributing books.

After I stopped someone and exchanged a few words, I’d present the book to the person and, as Srila Prabhupada encouraged us to do, show the pictures to them.

Showing the changing bodies picture, I’d say the soul is going through the body from boyhood to old age to death and that it would continue after the death of the body. Then I would tell them the soul is so powerful that nothing can kill the soul not even the hydrogen bomb.

Then I would ask, “Do you know why the soul is so powerful?”

The person always said, “No, why?”

“Because it’s part of God, who is the most powerful. The more we connect with God, the more powerful we get, and the less connected we are to Him the weaker we become. This book will help you become spiritually powerful.”

Then I would ask for a donation, and ninety percent of the people would give one and take a book. It was pretty ecstatic.

This took place this last Saturday. All week long I was giving seminars on book distribution to the congregation and the temple devotees with the idea that we would all go out together on Saturday. During the week it’s difficult for the congregation to go out because they have jobs, so the plan was to try and inspire them to go on Saturday. It was a good turnout. Thirty-three devotees went out and distributed 1,124 books. We all had a great time giving our treasures of bhakti to the people.

CATCH THE READING BUG- 17TH Nairobi International book fair

Submitted by Dwaraka Vasini dasi

fair 007Among the 76 exhibitors at this year’s International book fair  ( 17 to 24 September 2014 ) was our very own ISKCON stall that displayed most of Srila Prabhupada’s books.

According to the organizers, a total number of 16,652 students visited the fair, from various schools within Nairobi and the outskirts.

To attract the students to the ISKCON stall the young vaishnavi’s gave out a cupcake for every book sold. In this way crowds and crowds of student’s flocked the stall and got the mercy of Srila Prabhupada both in the form of his books and also Krishna Prasadam.

It was amazing to see how children are easily attracted to Krishna’s photo on the covers of these books. Continue reading
