A Muslim bussiness man has a change of heart

MalawiAround one and a half years ago, while distributing Srila Prabhupada’s books on a street in Blantyre, Malawi, I met Mr. Khan, a Muslim businessman from India. He was amused to see an Indian sadhu in a dhoti and kurta on the busy streets of a remote Central African country and asked me in Hindi what was I doing. I explained to him that I was from the Hare Krishna movement and was distributing books about how to develop love for God. At that time he bought some small books. A few days later, when we met again on the street, he started criticizing Srila Prabhupada, saying that he uses abusive language and calls people rascals. When i met him again on the street after a few days, he had started appreciating the books and said that Continue reading “A Muslim bussiness man has a change of heart”

Journey to East Africa

Murari Dasa

Dear Devotees,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All Glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Recently I had to travel to Nairobi – Kenya from Blantyre – Malawi and the period of my journey included the first week of December. As this would mean missing the Marathon during this period I tried to distribute books during the journey which was done by bus. I couldn’t distribute on all of the bus journeys since in some of them the passengers wouldn’t know English and I didn’t have Swahili books on me. The following is an account of my preaching during different legs of this journey. Continue reading “Journey to East Africa”

Report from Malawi

Malawi, in Africa, is a place where very few have heard of Krsna. But there are many people here who are always ready to buy the books, and as soon as they look at them, they say how beautiful they are.

Once I went into a bakery named Ali Baba Bakery and showed the books to the fair-skinned man at the cash counter. His name was Nicholas and he was immediately interested. He took SSR, Raja Vidya, Beyond Birth and Death, and Perfection of Yoga. He paid half the amount and asked me to come and collect the other half on the next day. Hare Krsna,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

A few weeks back we started going house to house on Sundays, here in Blantyre, Malawi. With me was Bhakta Ram, an expatriate Indian professional who started attending Bhagavad-gita classes about one and a half years ago and who subsequently took up the process of Krishna consciousness.

So far we have gone out on 4 Sundays. On the first Sunday that we went out we were used as instruments for giving out two books. I had gone house to house in India for at least about two years in the South. But this was Malawi, in Africa, worlds apart. I didn’t know what to expect or what to say or how to present myself and the books. And so I just followed whatever we did in India and then tried to adjust accordingly. Respected GBCs, Maharajas, Prabhus and all attendees of the BBT Africa Conference 2012,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Due to some commitments I was unable to attend this year’s conference, something which I hope to not repeat in the future. I would thus like to give a summary of our activities as well as future plans, if Krishna wills.

Preaching activities are continuing under the guidance and blessings of our GBC; H.H. Bhakti Caitanya Swami.

In the month of March last year we took part Continue reading “Report from ISKCON Blantyre”
