Maseru, Lesotho March 2013 Day 3

Maseru, Lesotho March 2013 Day 3 by Madhumangala dasa Day three Today my main focus was to get as many people as possible to chant Hare Krsna. I decided to go up to the top end of the main street, where most of the markets and stall holders line the street. I started chanting and people would laugh at first. Maseru, Lesotho March 2013 Day 2

Maseru, Lesotho March 2013 Day 2
by Madhumangala dasa

In the morning, with great eagerness, I set out to distribute books. The first person I encountered liked the books, but said she did not have any money. Just then another lady appeared with a twenty Rand note in her hand and said to me: “I would like to take a book. Yesterday I did not have any money.” I gave her a Beyond Birth and Death. Shortly after that, I met a group a young students. As they curiously asked me where I was from, I handed each one of them a book and began preaching to them. More and more students came to listen and the crowd got a little bigger.

This gave me an opportunity to introduce them to the holy name of the Lord! Continue reading “Maseru, Lesotho March 2013 Day 2”

Maseru, Lesotho March 2013 Day 1
by Madhumangala dasa

For a long time now, I had wanted to come here to Lesotho to assist Srila Prabhupada and to spread the glories of the holy name of Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu in Maseru, the capital city of Lesotho. Ekatmaka had invited me to come down here more than a year ago, and by the mercy of Guru and Gauranga, I finally came. Ekatmaka is from the Ukraine and had lived in Israel before coming to South Africa together with his wife, who is from the Philippines. She is a gynaecological surgeon and has been a volunteer for the United Nations. They first lived in Tzaneen in the northern province of South Africa. After her contract at the hospital there expired, she got a post at a hospital in Maseru. So indeed I was most fortunate to have them assist me in my service to Srila Prabhupada’s book distribution mission.

Day one

The transcendental journey with Ekatmaka to Lesotho, by the mercy of Guru and Gauranga, started! We stopped at Lady Brand for Ekatmaka Continue reading “Maseru, Lesotho March 2013 Day 1”

Johannesburg to Nelspruit to Maputo… Preaching report

South Africa to Mozambique – February 2013
by Madhumangala dasa

On the 19th of February, Deve Prabhu and myself left the BBT House at seven in the morning to head east on the N12 towards Nelspruit. Deve Prabhu works for an instrumentation company and he had previously asked me if I would like to accompany him to Mozambique, where he had some clients to see in a sugar mill in the north of the country. We made our first stop in Benoni to get refreshments. As we were leaving the store, I motioned to a gentleman behind me that he could leave first. He smiled and, motioning back to me, declined and requested me to go first. No, I told him, he should go first. But he insisted that I should do so, and I did. Standing outside, I introduced myself to him and asked him why he had been so humble. He replied: “I can see that you are a Hare Krsna. I have always had the utmost respect for what the Hare Krsnas are doing in society.” Continue reading “Johannesburg to Nelspruit to Maputo… Preaching report”

The first batch of Srila Prabhupada’s books were delivered to the headquarters of the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) in Pretoria on 9 January 2013. For months the Sastra Dana team had been entangled in the long red-tape of the government department. Continue reading “First dispatch of books to South African prisons”

Journey to East Africa

Murari Dasa

Dear Devotees,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All Glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Recently I had to travel to Nairobi – Kenya from Blantyre – Malawi and the period of my journey included the first week of December. As this would mean missing the Marathon during this period I tried to distribute books during the journey which was done by bus. I couldn’t distribute on all of the bus journeys since in some of them the passengers wouldn’t know English and I didn’t have Swahili books on me. The following is an account of my preaching during different legs of this journey. Continue reading “Journey to East Africa”

The Broad Spectrum Remedy

When a patient comes for treatment to a doctor for the very first time, if the doctor sends him to run some tests before treating him, more than often the patient will … Continue reading The Broad Spectrum Remedy
