First dispatch of books to South African prisons

Dear devotees,

Please accept our humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

After 9 months of patiently waiting, finally the moment we were praying for arrived. The first batch of Srila Prabhupada’s books were delivered to the headquarters of the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) in Pretoria on 9 January 2013. For months the Sastra Dana team had been entangled in the long red-tape of the government department.

In this first batch 41 Medium Sets (738 books) were delivered. From here the books will be recorded as “assets” of the DCS and delivered to 41 prisons across South Africa.

This has been possible only through the support and donations of kind devotees. The Sastra Dana team would like to sincerely thank all the wonderful devotees who have supported this project, and donated many of these books. We are eternally grateful and we pray that Mahaprabhu and Srila Prabhupada shower Their causeless mercy upon you.

We will soon be delivering many more sets to the DCS, so watch this space! You can get more details about the Sastra Dana project on our blog (

  1. Amazing. Congratulations! So many windows of opportunity are starting to open & it’s wonderful your team is making the most of this opportunity.

    1. Thank you Prabhu. One library in South Africa received a sponsored set of Srila Prabhupada’s books 23 years ago! Those books are still being read by many library patrons, today. Yes, many windows will open.

Please pray that the Sastra Dana program reaches out to many more libraries across Africa. Hare Krishna!
