A few points on health for book distribution

Haribol Prabhus,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

For those of you that sometimes have a sore throat when distributing, the best thing I’ve found to help is cloves, believe it or not. Just let them soak in your mouth a while, then slowly chew on them. I’ve found that nothing works better, and they’re very cheap.

If you want to go the long run on book distribution I recommend that you find some time to do yoga at least every other day. Even 10 or 15 minutes can do wonders.

Also, have healthy eating habits. We’re seeing that devotees are having major health problems, myself included. When we’re young, we eat what we like to eat, but as we get older it’s better to eat what is good for us. Srila Prabhupada said we should try to live long lives because we need a lot of purification. One of our most successful book distributors, Paramesvara Prabhu, lives on an almost raw diet.

He once said to me, “I never get sick.”

That’s probably the ultra healthy diet, which very few can follow, but at least be conscious of what’s going in our bodies: Is this good for me or bad for me? Generally we eat what is pleasing to the tongue, but remember that whatever we eat is going past the tongue and can be a problem in the other areas of the body over time. The tongue is the most voracious and uncontrollable sense. Better to control the lower self with the higher self. Let’s try to live long lives so that we can distribute lots of books.

Prabhupada said, “First health, then sadhana, then service.” Therefore he would almost always end his letters with, “I hope this finds you in good health.”

I also hope this finds you in good health,

Your servant,
Vijaya das
