For my personal realisation this time round was that it doesn’t really matter how many books one is able to distribute, the important factor is that it should be done with Love and Devotion.
Before the marathon started we had a book committee meeting, discussing how we were going to distribute books. I was so fired up that I mentioned we had to be the top distributors in Africa and also in the small town category as well as finish all the books we had in the store. We had ordered a very big consignment of books last year, and I was all set to make the store empty. Wow!!!
But as we went on the marathon and worked very hard throughout the day, trying our best to distribute these treasures, and by hearing the remarks of the people buying the books which was most of the time positive e.g.
“I was always looking for Bhagavad Gita”
“Oh these books are wonderful”
“When I was a teenager I was given a Science of Self Realization as a gift by my Father, but I lost it, now I have found it again”.
These kind of remarks used to make our day and we had a reason to be back on the street again the next day, to help Srila Prabhupada in his mission of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu to distribute the holy name in every town and village.
So, does it matter how many books we sell in a day, or whether we are top in Africa or not? What actually matters is that we should be out there with Srila Prabhupada’s books, assisting him in his mission.
