A Perfect Gentleman
Submitted by Madhumangala Dasa Srila Prabhupada was once asked by a reporter; “How will you recognise a devotee when you see him?” He replied: “He will be a perfect gentleman.” Shortly after hearing this I had the realization, a perfect gentleman means to be a well wishing friend of all living entities. I then had a further realization: A well wishing friend of all living … Continue reading A Perfect Gentleman
A Pat on the Shoulder
Submitted by Dwarka Vasini ( Nairobi ) This was one of the worst days on sankirtan, no one was stopping. I had been struggling for over an hour and half, alone, without any luck. I was feeling restless, and was pacing to and fro on the street. So many thoughts were going on through my mind. Why was I on the street? The only Indian … Continue reading A Pat on the Shoulder

Dar es Salaam
Diary Entry 13th February 2012
Since the next day I would return to Johannesburg from Dar es Salaa, which is on the east coast of Africa, I decided to take a walk along the beach. I told the taxi driver where I wanted to go, and he said he knew where it was and would take me there. But after he dropped me off and I had walked for some time, I realized I was far from where I had intended to be. But it was hot and I wasn’t prepared to find another taxi. So I just kept walking. Soon I approached the ferryboat terminal, where hundreds of locals where walking and large crowds lined the streets, selling everything from fruit to clothing to sunglasses, and of course the fish market was bustling. Buses, motorbikes — I was in a sea of bodies. From what I could see, I was the only mazungo (foreigner) Continue reading “The Glorious Harinam Party in Dar es Salaam”

The Obvious Choice

The man willingly stopped and showed a lot of interest in the books. After a lot of deliberation he couldn’t choose a book, so he turned to his daughter and asked her to choose what she … Continue reading The Obvious Choice
It Pays to Smile
Submitted by Dwarka Vasini ( Nairobi ) I was almost winding up for the day, with just four books in hand, as I was waiting to be picked up by our temple car from the street. Trying to finish the few books, I noticed a man on a wheelchair looking at me as he passed in front of me. I smiled at him, and he … Continue reading It Pays to Smile

Dar es Salaam – Diary Entry 10th March 2012
It is almost 1pm – From the window where I am on the 12th floor – all around I can hear the sound from the Mosques as the holy name of the Lord is called out for all to come and offer their prayers to Him. This is making me think of Lord Caitanya, when He instructed His followers Continue reading “The nectar for which we are always anxious for!”
