Maseru, Lesotho March 2013 Day 4

Day four
On this day, I approached a lady at a table outside a coffee shop and asked her if she knew where I could find a vegetarian restaurant. As she replied, I could hear that she spoke with an American accent. I asked her if she was from California. Yes she was, she answered. I told her that I had lived in San Diego for three years. She responded with amazement that she lives in San Diego. I enquired what had brought her to Maseru and she replied that she was with the Peace Corps working in education with young children. I then asked her if she knew Bob Cohen, who had also been in the Peace Corps many years ago.
I sat down at the table and handed her a Perfect Questions Prefect Answers, showing her Bob Cohen’s name at the back of the book. Continue reading “Maseru, Lesotho March 2013 Day 4”

Maseru, Lesotho March 2013 Day 3 by Madhumangala dasa Day three Today my main focus was to get as many people as possible to chant Hare Krsna. I decided to go up to the top end of the main street, where most of the markets and stall holders line the street. I started chanting and people would laugh at first. But soon they were repeating … Continue reading Maseru, Lesotho March 2013 Day 3

In the morning, with great eagerness, I set out to distribute books. The first person I encountered liked the books, but said she did not have any money. Just then another lady appeared with a twenty Rand note in her hand and said to me: “I would like to take a book. Yesterday I did not have any money.” I gave her a Beyond Birth and Death. Shortly after that, I met a group a young students. As they curiously asked me where I was from, I handed each one of them a book and began preaching to them. More and more students came to listen and the crowd got a little bigger.
This gave me an opportunity to introduce them to the holy name of the Lord! Continue reading “Maseru, Lesotho March 2013 Day 2”

Maseru, Lesotho March 2013 Day 1

For a long time now, I had wanted to come here to Lesotho to assist Srila Prabhupada and to spread the glories of the holy name of Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu in Maseru, the capital city of Lesotho. Ekatmaka had invited me to come down here more than a year ago, and by the mercy of Guru and Gauranga, I finally came. Ekatmaka is from the Ukraine and had lived in Israel before coming to South Africa together with his wife, who is from the Philippines. She is a gynaecological surgeon and has been a volunteer for the United Nations. They first lived in Tzaneen in the northern province of South Africa. After her contract at the hospital there expired, she got a post at a hospital in Maseru. So indeed I was most fortunate to have them assist me in my service to Srila Prabhupada’s book distribution mission.
Day one
The transcendental journey with Ekatmaka to Lesotho, by the mercy of Guru and Gauranga, started! We stopped at Lady Brand for Ekatmaka Continue reading “Maseru, Lesotho March 2013 Day 1”

South Africa to Mozambique – February 2013
by Madhumangala dasa
On the 19th of February, Deve Prabhu and myself left the BBT House at seven in the morning to head east on the N12 towards Nelspruit. Deve Prabhu works for an instrumentation company and he had previously asked me if I would like to accompany him to Mozambique, where he had some clients to see in a sugar mill in the north of the country. We made our first stop in Benoni to get refreshments. As we were leaving the store, I motioned to a gentleman behind me that he could leave first. He smiled and, motioning back to me, declined and requested me to go first. No, I told him, he should go first. But he insisted that I should do so, and I did. Standing outside, I introduced myself to him and asked him why he had been so humble. He replied: “I can see that you are a Hare Krsna. I have always had the utmost respect for what the Hare Krsnas are doing in society.” Continue reading “Johannesburg to Nelspruit to Maputo… Preaching report”
