BBT Only Day

“BBT Only” Day

In cooperation with the ISKCON GBC, the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust is marking March 14 as the first annual “BBT Only” Day.

This is a day to remember the following important instructions from Srila Prabhupada:

  • He formed the BBT to serve as his exclusive publisher.
  • He wanted all his books purchased exclusively from the BBT.

His Divine Grace gave those instructions in a letter addressed to all ISKCON temples. The letter was dated March 14, 1974.

March 14 this year will be the fortieth anniversary of that letter.

Every devotee and congregational member of ISKCON should become familiar with that letter and have its importance clear in mind.

“BBT Only” Day is also an opportunity for devotees to remember — or learn about — the value the BBT adds to Srila Prabhupada’s mission in ways other than by publishing books. For example, Continue reading “BBT Only Day”

The glories of traveling and preaching in West Africa

By the mercy of Guru and Gauranga – returned safely to Johannesburg, three days ago, after an almost two month sankirtan mission in West Africa. I went to Ghana and to Togo, a small French speaking country sandwiched between Ghana and Nigeria.

It was like exploring new territory – What I discovered was a whole new world of pushing on Srila Prabhupada’s ISKCON movement. The Radha Govinda temple in Accra Ghana, there have a nice van, that has about twenty devotees that travel round the countryside. They stop at small towns and villages and Continue reading “The glories of traveling and preaching in West Africa”

Grahamstown National Arts Festival 2013 Report

Grahamstown National Arts Festival 2013 Report

13It is that time of year again. Time to saddle up for one of our big endeavours for the year. The Grahamstown National Arts Festival is upon us.

Grahamstown is located in the Eastern Cape, just under two hours from Port Elizabeth, and if you were to visit there during any time of the year, you won’t see much. Big, quiet streets. Not much happening, but come end of June every year, there is a national convergence of musicians, tricksters, hipsters, hippies, poets, know-its, artists, scientists, boere, bums, wanderers and seekers. Only for eleven days. Despite the freezing cold temperatures combined with the biting wind and the guarantee for rain for at least some of the days, thousands of people come to bear witness to this remarkably successful festival.

There are lots of things to do on offer. Dramas, musical performances, street acts, poetic recitals, stand-up comedy, art galleries, clubs, pubs, food and all kinds of trinkets, antiques, cloths, gadgets and gimmicks are available.

On 25 June, we left the Cape Town temple at about 09h00 ISKCON time with our old faithful Food for Life bakkie, fully equipped with Continue reading “Grahamstown National Arts Festival 2013 Report”
