The outbreak of the covid-19 strain of the coronavirus has been declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organisation. Given the magnitude and severity of the rate at which the virus is spreading, the South African Government has declared a national state of disaster in terms of the Disaster Management Act.
Several measures have been imposed by the Government due to the spread of the virus resulting from person-to-person contact. This includes the prohibition of gatherings of more than 100 people.
In line with this, as well as with the decision taken by the South African National Council (SANC) to suspend all public and mass gatherings, the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust (BBT) Africa has made the decision to suspend all BBT Africa public events. This includes the Annual Bhaktivedanta Swami Lecture as well as the Annual BBT Africa Conference. This suspension is to remain in place until such time that the Government and the SANC advise that it is safe for such public gatherings to be held, in line with relevant medical guidance.
This decision has been made in the interest of all participants who attend BBT Africa events.
